Day 1: First Day in Sydney

Thursday 07/18

After enduring a 14 hour flight from LAX to Sydney, Australia, all of us were very happy to be on land. We arrived at the airport around 8am, got through customs, and met with our 24-hour tour guide, Leeanne. She introduced herself and we headed to “Old Sydney.” On the way there, we say the unique architecture of the city and the difference between the buildings of Australia and America. When we got to our destination, we took a tour around the area and learned about the deep history of the European settlement of Australia.

The country was built on convicts, sailors and soldiers. All convicts had specialities that they used to develop the city. Many were architects, and others were bakers. Through there combined expertise, they created Australia.

We looked through the remains of the architecture and the preserved buildings from that time period. History had been preserved for centuries.

After our tour, we had an hour and a half to grab lunch and explore more of the city.

Then, we met at our tour boat gate and headed to take a boat tour of the city. On our hour and fifteen minute harbor tour, we saw the beautiful and iconic Sydney Opera House. After taking many pictures on the water, we saw the incredible skyscrapers and mansions, and enjoyed the rest of the scenic route.

We left for our hotel, Travel Lodge Sydney, and that’s where we got assigned our rooms. We had about an hour and a half to freshen up for our night out at Pancakes on the Rocks. We had our preordered dinner and were served our dishes immediately. We all had a fun night talking with friends and eating our food.

We headed back to our hotel with our 9:00pm curfew. After an exhausting, but exciting day, it had come to an end but we can’t wait for a packed day tomorrow.
